What is an Athletic Trainer?

Athletic trainers (AT)
are healthcare professionals who collaborate closely with physicians. The services provided by athletic trainers include injury prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of sports injuries and other medical conditions.

At Navasota ISD, the members of the Sports Medicine Team work closely with the athletes at Navasota High School and Navasota Junior High. They are responsible for ensuring that athletes practice and play in a safe and productive environment. Athletic training student aides are high school students who work closely with staff athletic trainers to properly hydrate, prepare, and treat student athletes.

For more information on the athletic training profession, please visit the National Athletic Trainers' Association website.

Vision Statement:
The Navasota Sports Medicine Program provides traditional athletic training and sports medicine services to the students of Navasota Junior High and Navasota High School that participate in organized athletics. The services provided fall into four primary categories: injury prevention (preventative rehabilitation, taping, bracing, etc.), management of athletic injuries, rehabilitation, and emergency care. The sports medicine program also provides a framework for students seeking education in athletic training and sports medicine.  We are committed to providing the best possible care to the student athletes in Navasota ISD and providing students with the most up-to-date and current information regarding sports medicine.

Our goal is for the student athletes within Navasota ISD to participate in a safe, fun, and productive environment. Should an athlete become injured, our goal is to provide them with the best possible care and return them to the field as soon as safely possible. We are committed to an ongoing evaluation of our program to ensure we are continually improving the services we provide. It is also our goal to make sure problems and concerns are addressed in a timely manner so that we can continually meet the needs of the student athletes and their families.

It is our desire to be a program of leaders - in healthcare and within Navasota Athletics. We will demonstrate this through hard work, dedication, and support. Leadership will help to establish continuity between all athletic sports programs.  We aspire to be an outstanding Sports Medicine Program.
